This saturday we finally got to experience the Round Hill SCottish Highland Games. Every other year I have had to work so it was great to get a chance to go. Catelynn really liked the bag pipes and LOVED highland dancing. We had a wonderful time and was glad Grandma could come and experience a little scottish culture :)

Catelynn and mommy had a bonding moment over bagpipe music. There's no denying what runs through our veins.

We couldn't keep Catelynn away from the dance floor. She really wanted to be able to do what the big girls were doing.

Colin said " Let me have a try at the caber toss. I'll show 'em how it's done!"

We really enjoyed Oma's visit. The kids got to spend a few afternoons with her. It truly is a blessing for them to have two great grandmas :)

I've been promising to post more photos from our trip to Strasburg, PA so here they are. First we went to the Railroad Musuem which was AMAZING. I love the detailed engineering in antique cars and trains and this museum did not disappoint. There are WAY too many great pictures to post here so I'm just going to share a couple. I also was thrilled to be inspired to take more artistic detailed pictures of parts of the engines, displays etc. It's been a long time since I did something like that, way too long.

Catelynn wanted to know what Colin thought of all the trains.

Cate enjoyed Dad putting her up on his shoulders so she could see the model trains.

We also went on two train rides through the dutch farmlands. This was sooo much better than the rides on the Connecticut trains at Thomas Days.

Looks like we will have another train lover to bring back to Strasburg.

Contrary to the mood of this photo, Cate loved riding the train. Although she may look sad, I love how beautiful catelynn looks in this photo.

This is one of my favorite photos from the trip - the contrast between the Amish and modern modes of transportation.

Day Out With Thomas

The principle reason we all went to Strasburg was for the Day Out With Thomas event. Catelynn was sooo excited to see Thomas again. There were also lots of other activities to enjoy at the train station.

There was a minitaure " Cagney " steam train. Ken and cate rode this the

And " mine cars" you could sit in for a short trip back and forth on the rails. Grandpa Shirley had a great time too.

And a trolley car that Grandpa and Grandma couldn't wait to ride. day prior so they could avoid the long lines. The day before the Thomas Event started they had the train almost to themsleves. the next day there were over 53,000 people at the station.

Catelynn was fascinated by the engineers refilling the water tank of teh train when it pulled into the station. I think we definitely have a future engineer on our hands, She is so fascinated by finding out how things work.

Colin's Baptism

What better way to celebrate Father's Day than to attend Colin's baptism? Thankfully, we were able to baptize Colin at a much younger age than Catelynn since we are already members of the church. Colin is 20 weeks vs Catelynn was 50 weeks old (almost 1 )!

End of Year Beach Picnic

Catelynn's class celebrates the end of the year with a picnic on the beach. It was pretty cool for mid-June ( where is summer?) so we didn't think Catelynn would dare go into the water past her ankles. Boy, were we wrong - she wandered further and further in until she managed to get completely covered. After a quick clothing change Catelynn was up and running around again.

Stepping Up Ceremony

Just before we left for vacation Ken and I attended her stepping up ceremony at preschool. It has only been 2 1/2 month but Catelynn's speach has made great improvements and she LOVES school. I couldn't help but cry watching her sing with the other kids and follow with all the body movement animation. Sh was very excited when she finally spotted us after scanning the crowd of parents.

At Home on a Horse

i will post more pictures from our trip to Lancaster, PA soon but I wanted to post these of our beautiful catelynn for those of you not using Facebook yet. We were so proud of our " big girl." She handled herself with a maturity way beyond her years, following the stable owner's directions diligently. She took the whole matter very seriously and looked like she was born to sit on top of a horse. I know I'm a proud mama but I don't think I have ever seen Catelynn look more beautiful than when she first looked down at me from up on the horse. I wish I had been able to capture it with my camera but I was so stunned at how mature and beautful she looked that I just couldn't move.

For those of you close enough to go, we HIGHLY recommend a trip to Lancaster, PA. So much so that we all plan on going back in September. The Strasburg Railroad museum is AWESOME and the train ride through Dutch country is spectacular.

Gardening with Dad & Grandpa

Catelynn enjoyed planting seeds in our garden so much we thought she shoudd help Grandpa with his. What kid doesn't love digging in the dirt? Catelynn takes her gardening very seriously ;)

Catelynn tried to convince Colin that she should join in on the fun but he insisted that lounging was more his speed.

Down on the Farm

Given Catelynn's love of animals and newfound passion for ponies we figured it was pretty much a sure thing that she would love the petting zoo that came to town for one day. Not only did they have farm animals you could feed - but unlimited pony rides too!

Catelynn kept trying to figure out how to get into the cages with the animals!

She loves " driving " the bulldozers and tractors.

Catelynn was like a duck to water once they put her up on the pony. No fear at all :)

Hindley Happening - School Fair Fundraiser

Every year one of the elementary schools holds a fund raising fair for just one day. Last year Catelynn was too overwhelmed by the noise to enjoy it but we thought we would give it another shot since she loves the Merry Go Round now. She certainly has natured a lot in the last year and had a blast!

Catelynn showed incredible restraint waiting her turn. Mom and Dada were VERY proud :)

We weren't sure how cate would do going on the rides for the first time by herself but she loved " flying ".

Everyone knows how much Catelynn loves Thomas the Tank engine. She practically knocked over a boy that was bigger than her so she could beat him onto the train.

This little Merry Go Round had all her favorites and Catelynn insisted on getting a ride on all of them before she would go home.

Unfotunately, there wasn't much for Colin to do except watch his big sister - maybe next year...

As much as she enjoyed all the other rides, there is no doubt that the Horse Carousel is still her favorite :)

People who know Catelynn well know that two of her favorite things are rocks and water. so hwat could be a more perfect time to spend the day for Catelynn thn to throw rocks into the sound. We didn't get to take pictures on the rocks in Milford at Thanksgiving because I was on bed rest. Now that it was finally warm enough to go down there again I couldn't wait to get some good pictures of her and Ken.

We spent Easter at " mommy grandpa " and "daddy grandpa's" house this year. It was still chilly so we had a short and quick easter egg hunt. Catelynn enjoyed finding the eggs - especially the gold ones. next year she's going to have a run for her money when Colin can hunt for eggs too :)

Since he can't pick up the eggs anyway, Colin decided to catch some zzzs.

Family Birthday Party

Since Catelynn's Birthday fell on a Wednesday this year, we decided to celebrate with family on the following Saturday. The party was a big hit with Catelynn since there was Thomas the Train decore everwhere.

Easter Egg Hunt

Catelynn was eager to see the Easter Bunny again so we took her to the town Easter Egg hunt. Although there were plenty of chocolate egss to collect, Catelynn only had the bunny on her mind so we headed over for more photos and bunny hugs.

Colin had his first bunny picture taken too. He wasn't as impressed.

There was also a big yellow fire truck to climb on too.

Overall we think ken and Cate had a great time.

Catelynn Meets the Easter Bunny

Based on Catelynn's experience with the Easter Bunny we think she is starting to get to the point she would enjoy meeting the characters at Disneyworld. It was so cute to see her blush when the bunny touched her cheeks.

Catelynn didn't think it was fair that the Easter Bunny didn't have any eggs or jelly beans and kept running back and forth to share with him.

We can hardly believe it has already been 3 years. After Catelynn got back from school Ken and I took her to the Norwalk Aquarium.

We did not know what to expect when we brought Colin home to meet Catelynn. Cate has always been a very loving child but you never know when jealousy might show up. Thankfully Catelynn has shown all signs of loving her little brother. She has alreday tried to share her toys with him and can't give him enough hugs. If anything she is having a harder time understanding why she can't hug and hold him whenever she wants. Catelynn is going to be a great big sister :)

Baby Colin finally made his entry into the world at 7:39 a.m on Friday, January 30, 2009. His weight was 7 lbs 6 1/2 ounces and 18 1/2 inches in length. We were surprised to see that he looks completely different from his 4D ultrasounds and actually looks a lot like his big sister Catelynn.

If there was any question about whether my belly is bigger with this second pregnancy this photo should shatter any doubts. It looks like baby Colin is going to be a big boy. We are now officially at 38 weeks and Catelynn can't wait to get my lap back! The Dr. said it should be any day now based on how low he is - here's hoping he is right.

And not that it makes that much of a difference but there is a shadow behind me so keep that in mind as you gasp in horror :0

Building a Gingerbread House

Catelynn's Great Oma sent her a gingerbread house for Christmas. Grandpa thought it would be fun for he, Cate and Ken to do something together before he leaves for Israel again. They had a great time putting all the candy on the house to decorate it and catelynn couldn't resist sampling the goodies!

Christmas Toys, Oh My!

Catelynn must have been a very good girl this year judging by all of the wonderful gifts she recieved from family and friends both near and far.

Cate just LOVES her little farm and wildlife animals. After she opened Auntie La's gift it was hard to get her to open anything else for a while.

All things Thomas the tank related are always a hit! She just LOVES choo choo trains.

But we are always amazed at how much she is drawn to elephants. Seeing the baby elephants at the Pittsburgh zoo really had a very strong and lasting affect on her.

Granny McRae's best friend in Scotland sent Catelynn the coolest towel poncho of a Scottish piper. Looks like Catelynn is ready to join the front lines in Braveheart!

Christmas 2008

We had a wonderful Christmas this year full of good times with family. This year everyone came to us on both X-mas Eve and X-Mas so I wouldn't have to sit in the acr for long periods of time. We all had lots of fun watching Catelynn discover how much fun it is discover all sorts of wonderful things under the wrapping paper. Catelynn seamed to enjoy the Christmas mass. We went to the children's service. All the kids had animal masks and had to make animal sounds when they said their animal in the story of baby Jesus. Catelynn even tried to sing som eof her favorite carols. It was a close call thogh when she cried out for Rudolph just as the church finally quieted down. According to Catelynn it just isn't Christmas with out her favorite red nosed reindeer!

Today was the second 4D Ultrasound for the new baby. He was definitely more cooperative and let us see his face more. It honestly seamed like he put up less of a fight because he was sleeping!

The Great Pumpkin!

It took me a while to figure out what Catelynn should dress up as for Halloween but then we realized that a pumpkin was PERFECT! After she went to the pumpkin patch she constantly asks " where are the pumpkins? " And she would have absolutely NOTHING to do with the princess costumes in the stores. Once we saw her in the costume we knew nothing else would have been so right for her.

Despite how cute she looked, Catelynn thought the hat looked even better on daddy.

Normally, Catelynn is a nudist at heart. Despite asking to put the costume on several times a day she usually asks to take it off 5 minutes later. But after she saw the big kids dressed up she put on her costume, clutched her bag and was ready to go for a night of fun! And she didn't ask to take it off a all once we went out!

Well, this little one is just as camera shy as Catelynn was. Constantly covering uo his face with his hands, legs, feet, you name it. There was only one thing he wasn't embaressed to show - I'm sure you can guess. He wanted there to be no doubts he is a boy!

It's hard to see things clearly in the pictures at this stage but if you look closely you can see his face. We'll have new pictures on November 4th so check back in a few weeks.

Apple Picking

We made our annual pilgriamge to Bishop's Farm for Apple and Pumpkin picking this Sunday with Grandma and Grandpa Shirley, Auntie La and Uncle Guy. The ride out into the apple field in the tractor was definitely a hit with Miss Cate.

She kept Dad on his toes, making sure she didn't run off on her own. It's a HUGE orchard.

Once she got the hang of pulling apples off the trees Catelynn didn't want to stop.

That was until she decided to start munching on the biggest apple she could find! We definitely had to make a contribution to " the sin bin "!

A Visit to Great Oma in Harrison City, PA

We hadn't seen Oma in a while so we drove down to spend her birthday weekend with her. She seamed to get a kick out of Catelynn ruling the roost for a few days. As always, trips to visit family who live far away are always too short. Getting Catelynn to pose for a picture before we left was " a challenge. " I personally prefer the outtake to the finished product. It gives everyone a glimpse into what life with an energetic Catelynn is really like!

Pittsburg Zoo

We couldn't make a trip to Pittsburgh without visiting the Pittsburg Zoo. We highly recommend it to everyone who is in town. There are tons of exotic and domestic animals and yet it's still small enough to see everything in one day.

There were lions, tigers, rhinos, giraffes, bears and more, so much more.

But Catelynn's favorite of the day was the elephant. We even saw babies that were only about 3 weeks old. Catelynn fell in love with the "babus" and now her stuffed elephant is her faithful sidekick here at home.

Playing Catch With Cousin Kenny

We also were really glad we were ableto see Aunt Angie, Uncle Ken, Cousin kenny and their cute dog Buddie. Catelynn had a blast playing catch with Ken and Kenny and was in heaven playing with all the " big boy toys" .

A Day Out with Thomas

Most little girls love to play house and with dolls but our little Cate LOVES thomas " the choo choo train ." So we just had to take her to see Thomas.

Catelynn also had her first ride on a school bus and it was honestly hard to tell what she liked better - Thomas or the ride on the school bus.

She couldn't believe her eyes when she looked around at all the model trains that moved on their own - no pushing necessary!

Soon it was on to the highlight of the day - a ride on the Thomas train!

Catelynn was positively giddy with excitement when the train started to move.

Portraits in the Park

One of, if not the most beautiful parks in Connecticut is Harkness Memorial park. It's almost 2 hours from our house but definitely worth the ride. After another photo shoot I attempted to get some nice portraits of Catelynn. With so many gardens and puddles in the park Catelynn wanted to do anything but pose for mom. With a little perseverance I did manage to sneak in a few good shots :)

This year we decided we should make a better showing at the annual Push and Pull Parade. We pulled out all the stops to decorate our wagon. Catelynn couldn't wait to climbed in and LOVED being pulled in style.

July 4th is also mom's 27th anniversary of arriving in the United States. We ccouldn't believe the party they threw for our arrival!

Dad had his hands full keeping track of Catelynn at the end of the parade, making sure she didn't go for a swim in the pond!

Yesterday we went to a public pool for the first time with Miss Cate. Despite loving to run into the freezing Long Island Sound Catelynn seamed to think the water was too cold for splashing. That is until Daddy got her wet from head to toe! Then it was nothing but laughs for the two of them.

It was nothing short of a miracle that we managed to keep Catelynn dry on this trip to the beach. Lately she wants to run into the water no mater how cold it is, fully clothed! Instead, Ken managed to keep her entertained by finding and throwing pebbles into the water.

Another Trip to the Zoo

Now that the weather is getting nicer we decided to make good use of our yearly pass to the zoo and visit the tigers again. It is the best exhibit in th ezoo. The tigers are only a few feet from you. There is a wire mesh to protect everyome but with my zoom lense I can make it look like there's no barrier!

Prairie Dogs & Just Say No to Carousels

Catelynn's 2nd Birthday Party

We decided to keep Catelynn's birthday party small this year - just family and Uncle Guy ( who is like family anyway :) ). This year was a Bear in the Big Blue House theme. The character cutouts were quite a hit! While it's not the prettiest cake I decided to bake one myself this year. Thankfully everyone liked it, especially Catelynn! YUMMMM

We can hardly believe that it has been two years since Catelynn came into the world. Today was packed full of fun letting Catelynn just enjoy what she loves to do. First I woke her up at 10:57 am, one minute before her birthday was official. And boy was she a grouch! It took some convincing to get her to try her birthday cupcake, but once she had her first lick at the cream she couldn't be stopped!

Birthday Fun At Stepping stones

Since it was a wet and dreary day we couldn't go to the park to run around. So we decided to try the Stepping Stones Children's Musuem. Catelynn had a ball. There were lots of toys, crafts and things to climb on. She even found a pair of butterfly wings that she insisted on wearing. We had lots of laughs playing peak a boo through the glass holes.

Birthday Girl Gets All Wet!

There is NOTHING Catelynn loves more than playing in water. You can't even say the word BATH around her or she'll throw a fit to get in the water. We tried to keep her dry for as long as possible, but Catelynn insisted we go to the water section of the museum. Although they provide smocks the only part of Catelynn that was dry when we left was a small stripe on her belly. When the musuem closed we left in nothing more than a pair of tights, a t-shirt and mom's coat!

Today we went to Agga's house ( Grandma Shirley )for easter dinner and another egg hunt. Sadly, Catelynn is still more interested in sticks than eggs but we managed to get her to toss an egg or two into the basket. Maybe we'll have more luck next year. Much to my surprise, she did seam to have fun posing for pictures! We even managed to get one with mom for a change. I'm ready for my close up Mr. Deville!

Friend's Birthday Party

Today was the first birthday Catelynn attended for a friend. Her friend Sophie turned 2 today. She is a really sweet and bright little girl. After they went outside to burn off some of the sugar Catelynn treated us to her new fishy face. She must have been inspired from watching Nemo earlier. And it just wouldn't be a good party if she didn't take time to be a goofball with dad!

Today we went to an easter egg hunt held at the hom eof one of the ladies from the Working Mom's Network. Catelynn didn't seam to " get " what was so special about an easter egg hunt. She kept throwing the eggs peopl egave her out of the basket. As usual she was more interested in picking up sticks.

I had a project the last few weeks to take picturs of my favorite subject for a photography workshop. Naturally mine is Miss Catelynn so we went to the park down the street for these. She really looks like a little girl now. And is definitely not a baby anymore. But, she still squeals with delight on the swings :)

We finally had a decent snow storm so that we could get outside and play. At first Catelynn didn't seam to happy about being "stuck" in the deep snow but after a while she got the hang of taking BIG steps to get around.

I think it has been at least 20 years since I last built a snowman ( sad, isn't it?). This snow was just perfect for rolling and he was done in no time at all. What fun!! And don't you just love Ken's chipmunk cheaks in this hat!
